While Volvo’s future is still up in the air, and while it cuts 2,000 job to save cost, the Swedish automaker has no plans to stop expanding its model lineup. And with gas prices at an all time high, Volvo is looking to go small and green.

Volvo is working to introduce three new diesel models in the fall along with new smaller and more fuel-efficient models for emerging markets like China and Russia. It is unclear yet as to which Volvo models will receive the diesel option but we’ll find out in the coming months.

Volvo has been quiet about implementing hybrid technology into their models ever since the Swedish automaker introduced the C30 ReCharge concept. The C30 ReCharge was infact a plug-in hybrid that allowed a driving range of 62 miles on a full charge.

Hopefully the new compact models will make their way to the U.S. as well.

I saw a Volvo C30 blow by me yesterday. I have to admit, it made me feel a little funny in my pants.
