Alright guys let’s clear up some things about the next-generation Kia Spectra. The Kia Spectra is currently available in two variants including the sedan and the hatchback. Earlier last week, we showed you a teaser image from Kia of the next-generation Spectra and of course it shares a strikingly close resemblance to the Kia KOUP Concept we saw at this year’s New York Auto Show.

Well according to Lee Hyun-soon, president of Hyundai-Kia Motors’ r&d division, the Kia KOUP Concept will replace the Spectra here in the U.S. There will still be a sedan version of the Spectra; however the hatchback has been axed from the lineup for the coupe.

“We believe the coupe will sell better than the hatchback,” said Lee at a recent ceremony for the new Kia Motors America $130 million design center. We believe so to Lee.

Lee said Kia is aiming to transform its boring looks to attract more young buyers. The designers of the KOUP Concept are also responsible for the upcoming compact five-seater, the Kia Soul. Expect hotter looking cars from Kia in the near future now that Peter Schreyer, ex-Audi designer, has joined the Korean automaker.

I still think that it would be a good idea for Hyundai to make Kia their mass market brand (Honda/Toyota) & move Hyundai upscale w/ the Genesis & Azera to match Acura/Toyota.

I am trying to decide if I will still like it once they tone down the looks. Lets see; smaller wheels, less fancy front bumper and add a B=pillar, yes, it will still be a hit.

I dont know... concepts and teaser images can be deceiving from what the actual production model will look like. But at least they know their cars are boring! Thats a good sign

That's what I was trying ot say. That when they dumb down the looks for the actual production model it will be much more boring.
