Chrysler will allow drivers to turn cars into internet hotspots
So you thought it was cool that BMW is first automaker offering unrestricted use of the internet in your car. Honestly, how often are you going to be able to browse the internet through your navigation screen? Not to mention the hassle it would cause without the use of a keyboard. Well Chrysler is taking it a step further.
Starting next year, Chrysler will offer buyers the ability to turn their cars and trucks into wireless internet hotspots. The feature will be available as a part of the company’s ‘UConnect’ system and will debut on 2009 Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep models.
The wireless internet will be offered as a dealer-installed option and will work with cell phones. Chrysler’s spokesman Todd Goyer says that people will be able to connect their laptops to their car’s internet hotspot and use it as if they would at their office or home.
The wireless internet features will come with a monthly fee that will be announced at a later date. Chrysler will officially announce details this tomorrow.
