Earlier last week, Porsche confirmed to German publication Automobilwoche that it will indeed be producing a diesel version for the Cayenne by March 2009.

According to AutoCar, the unit will be sourced from Audi and is likely to carry the company’s version of the 3.0L V6 TDI found in the Q7. The unit will give the Cayenne diesel 240-hp and 400 lb-ft of torque.

Porsche has planned to kick off production in January 2009 alongside the facelifted version of the Boxster. No word yet whether or not Porsche will offer the diesel Cayenne on the stateside.
