While the GM name may be currently surrounded by negative headlines, the General has something to be happy about with the latest J.D. Power Initial Quality Survey. Its hottest-selling Chevrolet Malibu was recognized as the highest-quality midsize sedan on the market.

Cadillac and Chevrolet both moved up into the Top 10 among all brands. Pontiac and Buick also moved into the upper half of the industry. All four brands beat other highly-regarded brands including Acura, BMW, Nissan, Scion, VW and Volvo.

But nothing could be better than your midsize sedan being known as the highest-quality car in the segment as you move your focus away from trucks and SUVs production.

Now let’s just hope GM can follow up the Malibu success with quality compact and subcompact cars. GM all you really need is a baby-Malibu that you won’t cheap out on when purchasing materials for production; you can do it.

That is pretty shocking. Not surprised that the Camry was not there but the Accord is a surprise.

Granted this is only initial quality, lets see what the standings are during the next round for long term reliability …

See what happens when you take from the Euro parts bin?

Now, do that with the rest of your lineup (and not just Saturn) and see what happens.

Again this is an “INITIAL” review. Granted the Malibu is a huge step in the right direction for GM. GM does need a smaller version that does not induce nausea. Oh yeah, and don't forget to replace it before it turn 10 years old.

+1 … now on to remaking the cobalt

I wonder how this will effect GM's record setting depreciation rates. Will the Malibu depreciate as fast as they have been or will it hold its value as well as a toyota or honda now that its #1 in “Initial” quality?

Cutting down on the Malibu's fleet sales will surely help their resale.

GM makes the the top-ranked car brand in the JD Power Long-term Dependability Study. (For the last three years.) On average, every new Honda and Toyota has at lest one problem. Those who claim they are perfect are not honest. Toyota had to recall over 2 million vehicle due to BAD ENGINES which failed as early as 30,000 miles. Look it up, it's true.
