FoMoCo’s celebration of $100 million profit in the first quarter of 2008 may be short-lived. The automaker reported a 16 percent drop in May sales compared to the same month a year ago. Ford delivered a total of 217,998 units in May, down from 259,470 during the same month in 2007.

While the Ford Focus and Fusion remained in strong demand, Ford said that its SUV sales were down a whopping 44 percent while trucks and vans were down 29 percent.

On the other hand, FoMoCo said that Ford Focus sales were up an outstanding 53 percent compared to the same period a year ago, while Fusion sales rose 27 percent.
