According to an AutoblogGreen source, Toyota may offer the Canadians a diesel powered Toyota Land Cruiser by this fall. Overseas markets already get a 4.5 liter diesel V8 version of the 2009 Land Cruiser which made its debut in the U.S. in September 2007.

For now the 4.5 liter diesel V8 does not meet Tier 2 Bin 5 standards. The source said that a cleaner version of the engine should arrive in the U.S. for use in the Sequoia SUV and Tundra pickup later next year. It is expected to produce 280-hp and 520 lb-ft of torque.

Fuel-economy wise the diesel powered Land Crusier is expected to get about 22.4mpg, making it a strong competitor to the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid. Pricing will start around $77,290 Canadian dollars.
