Mercedes Gullwing to produce 550-hp, 0-60 in 3.8 secs

It’s been called the SLC, the Gullwing; but whatever you want to call it, it’ll be the hottest Benz to hit the road as of yet. Well at least after the Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG Black Series, which it will share major components with.

Our friends at CAR have gotten their hands on the recent Gullwing documents and have found out some interesting things. Measuring 4650mm x 1950mm x 1250mm, the wheelbase of the Gullwing will measure 2700mm with a luggage capacity of 200 liters for the coupe and 175 liters for the roadster.  Yet the car will still be lighter than the SLR with the use of a brand-new advanced aluminum spaceframe technology.

Now for what you’ve been itching to know. Power will come from an AMG 6.3 liter V8 unit producing 550-hp and 445 lb-ft of torque. 0-60mph should come in 3.8 seconds with a top speed electronically limited to 185mph. The engine will be mated to a new Sportshift gearbox and the Gullwing will ride on all-wheel-drive.

Mercedes is planning only 6,000 units of each, a coupe and a roadster, with production to end in 2013; just in time for the totally redesigned next-generation SL.
