While Nissan is out flaunting its new 7:29 run at the Nurburgring Nordschleife with the GT-R, Chevrolet is working hard to beat that time. Last week GM announced the official specs on the 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 with 638-hp and 604 lb-ft of torque. It later released a video of the car hitting a top speed of 205-mph.

According to InsideLine, GT-R’s happy moment will pretty short lived. In an interview with Corvette’s Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter, the man behind the ZR1 stated that the full production model will be capable of lapping the Nurburgring in “Seven minutes, twenty-something seconds.”

An official 0-60 time for the ZR1 is yet to be released. Nissan has already reported the official time at 3.5 seconds, however some car magazines have managed to do the sprint in 3.3. Well Chevy, we wish you the best of luck in giving us Americans something to haughty about.

Won’t do it. Its un-American to be a good car, hence the ZR1 will inevitably just be a car good for burn outs.

Of course the vette has to beat the GTR time. If it doesn’t that just ruins the reputation for a 630hp car that couldn’t even beat a 480hp car. Yet alone the base model. Vette is a good car, but crap compared to the GTR.

“could” beat the GTR isn’t good enough considering the V-spec will come out.

the GTR should be compared to the Zo6 in the first place anyway
