For those of you drooling over spy shots of what is being called the ‘M’ version of the X5 SUV, don’t get your hopes up. According to the boys over at BimmerFile, there will be no M X5 whatsoever.

Currently the range topping X5 carries a 4.8i which produces 350-hp. What you see in the spy pictures is a new uprated version of the X5 4.8i with a twin-turbo V8 that will produce just over 400-hp. That’s the same engine found in the X6 xDrive50i.

Now for those of you that were looking to take on your neighbor’s Porsche Cayenne Turbo which produces an eye-popping 500-hp with 0-60 time of 4.9 seconds, stop worrying. BMW claims that the X6 xDrive50i does 0-60 in 5.3 seconds, so we expect the range-topping X5 to be able to stand up strong against the Cayenne Turbo.
