Audi TT-RS and RS8 on the way says head of Quattro

Beyond the V12 TDI and the V12 TDI LeMans concepts shown at Detroit and Geneva, Audi is far from done with exploring ways to add on to the R8 lineup. Speaking to a small group of journalists at Neckarsulm, Germany, head of Audi’s Quattro GmbH Stefan Reil said that the German automaker is seriously considering a lightweight version of the R8 and TT sports cars.

“This is the direction you can go and make business,” said Reil. “It makes sense for the TT, and maybe in the future in an R8.”

Audi is expected to take the similar approach with the new TT as it did with the 2005 TT Quattro Sport with increased horsepower, tighter suspension, Recaro seats and a subtle reduction in weight. We already saw the Audi TTS in Detroit with 268-hp, but Reil’s comment confirm a TT-RS model that is rumored to hit at least 350-hp.

What about the R8? Well, we recently heard that the so called ‘RS8’ will get the same 580-hp 5.0L V10 TFSI engine found in the R6 Avant. Guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
