BMW had the time, resources, and opportunity to do right and come up with something like the '09 GT-R but they chose to wimp out with their pathetic performing new M3. Really sad! That said, I do love my '04 M3 but will exchange it for a new GT-R. It amazes me. Just like the Corvette ZR1, the GTR are amazingly low priced when considering the high level of performance. Also, the GT2 is both much lighter and shares many of its parts with a cup racing car. I doubt the GT2 feels any pressure from the GT-R.
