BREAKING SPY VIDEO: Reporter sneaks out first video of production Chevy Volt

During the second round of reporters getting one-on-one time with the Chevrolet Volt, GM was very careful confiscating all cell phones with any camera capabilities. But reporter, Jeff Gilbert of CBS, who managed to catch a few good seconds of a scale model of the Volt, made it out alive without being killed by GM security and officials.

We just reported yesterday that GM has finalized the design of the Volt and according to Larry Burns, GM”s vice president of R&D, the production Volt will bear a “clear family resemblance” to the concept. In this video, we see a more sedan-like Volt rather than the hatchback looking concept we saw in Detroit in 2007.

Kind of resembles the Cadillac CTS or the Chevrolet Camaro. What do you think?

Click through for the video.

Thanks for the tip Mike!

That is madness… ‘camera phone camera’, give me a break! At 1:15 you can clearly see the massive camera that the CBS people are carrying in the testing center. Any auto reporter who cares about his job or his publication’s access to new GM vehicles would have to be nuts to post images like these. This is another example of a planted ‘secret video’ from GM… remember how suddenly when C5 sales were slowing a trailer loaded with ‘naked’ C6s seemed to just appear, and the same w/ the Camaro shots.

The Volt will be quite an achievement if they can pull off the exotic battery pack… but I would ask GM to stick to the cars and tell their PR guys to think a bit harder on how to build excitement around their vehicles… maybe one could fall off a trailer… or could crash into my garage (please!), just make sure that the viewing audience does not see the cameras!
