BMW to offer Bluetooth audio streaming for its cars

BMW currently offers Bluetooth technology in their cars allowing the use of mobile phone use through the cars speakers. Nothing impressive here you say, even Nissan offers that now. Yes, but BMW is also the only automaker that allows the driver and passengers unrestricted use of the internet in their vehicles. Now BMW is on to another first.

BMW is currently working on developing an in-car Bluetooth technology that allows the playback of music files. It will offer stereo quality music streamed from either your cell phone or your Bluetooth enabled mp3 player.

Using Bluetooth AD2P (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) and AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile) standards, the option will initially only allow audio streaming. BMW says the development of the feature promises additional functions in the future.
