Audi contemplating an A3 sedan variant

According to AutoBild, next to join the A3 lineup is an A3 sedan. The magazine is reporting that Audi is considering the variant since the A4 is now larger than before, 22cm longer to be exact.

What we’re talking about here is an Audi sedan the size of a Ford Focus or the Volkswagen Jetta. If Audi actually produces an A3 sedan, it will be the only luxury automaker to offer a sedan in the segment. Mercedes-Benz and BMW currently offer only a hatchback in the segment, with BMW now pursuing to expand their lineup with a new 1-Series coupe and convertible.

AutoBild says we won’t see an A3 sedan until the next-generation model is on the market. The redesign for the A3 hatchback is expected in 2011 followed by the A3 convertible in 2013. The A3 sedan won’t see the light of day until much after the two are on the market.
