Toyota denies reports of increasing shares in Subaru, talks of more collaboration

Briefly mentioned here and there, some are reporting that Toyota is planning on raising its stake in Fuji Heavy Industries, maker of Subaru cars. Currently Toyota owns about 8.7 percent of Fuji, but a report by The Nikkei Business Daily said that Toyota plans increasing its shares to 17 percent by buying 64.25 million shares in the.
According to The Detroit News, both Toyota and Fuji denied the reports but said both were in talks of deeper collaboration.
Toyota is very careful about taking over companies. The Japanese automaker took about three decades to make Daihatsu which makes small cars. Toyota also holds a 5.9 percent stake in Isuzu.
Under their current alliance, Fuji makes the Camry sedan for Toyota in the U.S.
