With the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren coupe already out of production since the end of 2007, the SLR McLaren Roadster’s five-year run is set to end next year as well.
Mercedes is working on its new supercar, known internally as P11 (or to us as the SLC), that should appear in auto shows at the end of next year. Inspired by the iconic 300GL Gullwing, power is expected to come from 6.2L AMG V8 producing 600-hp. Mercedes is likely to give the P11 a production run of 500 units, which is expected to take place where the SLR coupe and roadster were produced.
The McLaren SLR production rose in 2007 with a total of 275 built. While that’s 14 more than 2006, it’s still down from Mercedes’ original estimates of 400 to 500 units a year.
