Audi execs have been saying that it will never happen, but now, according sources at AutoCar, Audi will be bringing an even hotter and faster R8 super car next year, the RS8.
Audi’s powertrain development Wolfgang Hatz confirmed the car with AutoCar this past weekend. “The car is now signed off, and will appear during the second quarter of 2009,” he said.
And yes it’ll be getting the same 5.0L V10 TFSI engine found in the R6 Avant. That means we’ll seeing a 580-hp R8 that will stand next to family members such as the Porsche 911 GT2 and the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4. AutoCar is estimating a 0-62mph time of less than 4 seconds, 0-100 mph in 8.5 and a top speed of beyond 200mph.
CarMagazine also confirmed last week that the R8 Convertible will be joining the lineup next year as well.
Let’s hope Audi doesn’t burn up anymore prototypes.
