According to a source familiar with FoMoCo’s plans, the automaker is bringing back rear-wheel-drive development to the U.S. from Australia.

Ford had no comment on moving the rear-wheel-drive program. However Derrick Kuzak, Ford’s global head of product development, said Friday that “On rear-wheel-drive, as we have already stated, we are working on a new platform and portfolio of vehicles. We will have more to say in the future.”

Ford has green-lighted a vehicle platform that will be the basis for a new generation of rear-wheel drive cars including an all-new Mustang and new Ford and Lincoln sedans. The Ford Interceptor concept that was shown at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show could be the shape of things to come says The Detroit News.
