BMW 520d exceeds Prius fuel economy
Posted: Mar 19, 2008

When we tell you that a BMW 5-series beat a Prius, we really don’t expect you to be impressed. However, if it beats the Prius in fuel economy, we’d be glad to help you pick your jaw up off the floor.
The 5-series in question is the 520d which is powered by a 2.0 liter diesel. The 520d also features regenerative braking. It beat the Prius in a London to Geneva 545 mile run in which it netted 41.9 MPG. The Prius was right on its heals with 41.0 MPG.
Good aerodynamics, low rolling resistance and a six-speed manual helped achieve the feat.
