Audi R8 V12 TDI LeMans test drive, 50/50 chance of production model

Audi R8 V12 TDI LeMans test drive, 50/50 chance of production model

The guys over at AutoWeek just had the chance of a lifetime to take the new Audi R8 V12 TDI Le Mans around the Sebring International Raceway. While they were only allowed to drive a couple of laps under 50mph, AutoWeek said that ‘even though this car is a concept, driving it was amazingly civilized–everything worked, and nothing fell off.’

Speaking with the Audi team, they learned that the concept had a 50/50 chance of being built and that if it ever reaches production the car will be built on a totally new transmission since this one is built from an A4. Audi is estimating a fuel-economy of 25mpg for the production model with a 0-60 time of less than 4 seconds and a top speed of 200mph (not to far fetched from the concept).

Power comes from the very famous 6.0 liter V12 TDI engine that produces 500hp and an outstanding peak torque of 738 lb-ft used in the production Audi Q7 V12 TDI.
