In order to meet its long-term goals, BMW will decide on a electric car for the U.S. market this year.

Speaking in an interview with Auto Motor und Sport, CEO Norbert Reithofer said that BMW will making a decision later this year on an electric car for the U.S. consumers. He did not give any details on whether BMW will pick a partner to produce the car or whether the car will receive a BMW badge.

Reithofer said that by 2012 BMW will be considered one of the largest vehicles manufacturer in the U.S. and it is obliged to offer a eco-friendly car.
