2009 Mercedes SL 63 AMG to be Formula F1 Safety Car

Mercedes has unveiled their new Safety Car and Official Medical Car for the 2008 Formula 1 season. Replacing the CLK Safety Car will be the new SL 63 AMG with its 6.3 liter V8 engine producing 525hp with a 0-62mph time of 4.6 seconds. The Safety Car is immediately on hand whenever the safety of the race is threatened by accidents, adverse weather or other hazardous situations. With the SL 63 AMG, driver Bernd Maylander will be able to stay in front of some the world’s fastest racing drivers guiding them around the circuit.

Joining the SL 63 AMG Safety Car will be the Medical Car based on the C 63 AMG which is powered by a 6.3 liter V8 engine producing 457hp. The car will follow the Formula 1 field during the critical first lap when all the Formula 1 vehicles are bunched up altogether.

This will be the 12th continuous year where AMG has provided the Official F1 Safety Car and Medical Car.
