Entry-level Ferrari 2+2 coming in October

When Ferrari introduces a new model, it’s almost a sort of changing of the guard. A new entry-level Ferrari, is arguably the most important because soon that model will leap off that poster on your wall and find its way through everything from rap videos to Rodeo Drive.

The new Ferrari, codenamed F149 is expected to be less expensive than the $190,000 F430 and will use the same engine 4.3 liter engine block, though not much else. Direct injection, a new gearbox, an innovative throttle body are merely some of the many new toys this model should get. The ‘F149’ is expected to be based on the same chassis as the Maserati GranTurismo, explaining why many F149 mules were disguised as GTs.

An optional folding steel hardtop convertible will mark a first for Ferrari. The F149 will likely boost Ferrari’s volume from 6,000 units to 10,000 units. Ferrari is expected to unveil the car at the Paris Motor Show in October.
