Audi considers U.S. production plant by 2010

Speaking to reporters at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show today, Audi’s CEO, Rupert Stadler said that the premium Volkswagen brand is considering building its own plant in the United States.

“We are considering the most varied options. That can mean joint production with Volkswagen but also a completely independent Audi plant would be a possibility,” Stadler said.

Audi is aiming to boost its annual sales in the U.S. to 200,000 by 2015, helping it reach its goal to 1.5 million units sold annualy.

Stadler said the earliest Audi could begin U.S. production would be in 2010.
