Lexus teases with the LF-A, roadster in the works

It was rumored that Lexus was going roll into the 2008 Detroit Auto Show with the production version of the much-anticipated LF-A supercar. However, it decided to surprise everyone with a roadster version of the LF-A Concept. Is Lexus just trying to keep our attention elsewhere, or is the premium Japanese auto maker really onto something?

The production Lexus LF-A is set to arrive in 2010 priced at over $200,000. We remember speaking to the PR at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show and they said that if the roadster was received favorably in Detroit and other auto shows throughout this season, Toyota may consider it putting it into production.

Of course we don’t expect see a production roadster LF-A until two to three years after the coupe debuts.

The Lexus LF-A Roadster is powered by a 5.0L V10 engine that produces 500 horsepower and a top speed of greater than 200 mph. Much like its coupe counterpart, the LF-A Roadster has a front end with a low-profile, aerodynamic shape. While it stands 48 inches tall like the coupe LF-A, the Roadster configuration adds a speed adaptive rear wing.

What do you think of the LF-A roadster?
