Toyota considering production version of A-BAT

Toyota is studying the possibility for a small truck that will fit underneath the already small pickup Tacoma. In an interview with TheCarConnection.com, Don Esmond, Toyota’s Senior Vice President, confirmed that the company is evaluating whether there is room for a smaller truck in its lineup

“We are looking at it,” he said. Esmond also said that the ‘A-BAT’ which made its debut at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show, could serve as the basis for the new smaller truck.

“It’s a pure concept vehicle,” said Esmond. However, Toyota will be studying the reaction to the concept throughout this year’s auto show season.

The Toyota FJ Cruiser also started as a pure concept SUV, but with the favorable reactions at auto shows, Toyota decided to put into production.

if the weight isn’t a huge increase over the Prius, it should easily get between 35 - 45 mpg.

if brought to production, i hope toyota won’t be as conservative as they were with the lexus LS600hL. projected sales, 2000/year. actual selling rate: 2000 per MONTH!

they may well have a longer backorder/wait list than the 2nd generation Prius did in 2004.
