Other GM brands may get a variant of the Chevy Volt

In an annual all-brand meeting today, GM told dealers that other GM brands may be getting a variant of the Chevrolet Volt in the near future. Lynn Thompson, who owns Thompson Sales Co. in Springfield, Mo., said that GM said the Volt’s powertrain could be applicable to other GM brands.
“It was just a passing comment, but my eyes popped out. I would hope they would share the wealth a little bit.”
Bob Lutz, has previously indicated that GM is looking to offer a family of electric vehicles that would share many parts with GM”s mainstream models. However, he pointed out that GM needs suppliers to come through with the batteries required to power their electric vehicles.
GM also said that it will introduce four new hybrid models this year including hybrid variants of the Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, Saturn Aura and the new Chevrolet Malibu sedans.
GM expects to offer the Volt in 2010, with pricing reaching close to $40,000.
