FoMoCo is investing $205 million in its South African plant to build its all-new compact pickup. The truck, which is a replacement for the Ranger, is being developed for Australia and is also intended for markets other than North America.
Ford said that assembly plant will kick off production in 2011, with 3-quarters of output exported to markets in Africa and Europe.
Ford will also begin production of its new Puma common-rail turbodiesel engine in 2010 in Port Elizabeth. The company expects to build at least 180,000 units.
