The new 2008 Cadillac CTS has outscored both of its German rivals including the BMW 328i and the Mercedes-Benz C300 in Consumer Reports’ 2008 upscale sport sedan review. Even though the new CTS came in third after the Infiniti G35 and the Acura TL, it still stood out in the Consumer Reports’ test earning a rating of ‘excellent’ over the BMW 328i and the Mercedes-Benz C300 which earned ‘very good.’

“The Cadillac CTS now competes toe-to-toe with some of the best German and Japanese sport sedans,” said David Champion, senior director of automotive testing for Consumer Reports.

Consumer Reports points out that the 328i and Saab 9-3, which was also included in the test, both have average or better reliability. The reliability of the 2008 CTS and C300 is unknown.

Audi will also enter the sports-sedan segment later this year with the new 2009 A4.

So wait, without actual numbers, CR said the CTS was more reliable than the 3 series or C class? Huh?

Also, something stinks here. For the first time I’m doubting CR because they ranked the Acura ahead of ANYTHING. I mean, its front wheel drive and its definitely not as luxurious as a CTS, C class or 3 series. What gives?

Reliable, sure, but the CTS doesnt have a reliability score yet. This was fubar.

Consumer reports don’t really apply much to how a car actually is, for instance, a certain sort buys hummers, a sort that is obviously insecure and feels undermasculine and will compensate for this by being overly defensive of this views and DESCISIONS, so they’re not going to want to admit that the manly-ass car that they just spent a bundle on is rather similar to a toy aimed at 4 year olds.
The Cadillac CTS is further to the Hummer side of the spectrum than the Mercedes and BMW side, so you are bound to get some Hummer effect.
