Japan's Mazda Atenza does not hint at 2009 Mazda 6 for U.S.

Supposedly the car that we’ve all come to known as the next-generation Mazda 6, or the new Atenza in Japan, does not hint at what the 2009 Mazda 6 will look in the U.S.

“The Mazda 6 will be designed and engineered for the U.S.” Jeremy Barnes, Mazda North American Operations spokesman, told Inside Line. “It will be on sale later this year as an ’09 model.” He said that the Atenza, which was unveiled in Japan on Tuesday, “doesn’t hint at what we’ll get in the U.S.”

Barnes said that the Mazda 6 that we will get in the U.S. will continue to be built in Flat Rock, Michigan.

The Mazda Atenza is similar to the version that was launched in Europe last year.

Ya know, I used to like that Mazda’s weren’t “dumbed down” for the US market. What gives Mazda? American’s don’t need specialized models. Give us the good stuff!

Yah, really, why are we getting “dumbed down” stuff? For what reasons do Americans need worse cars than everyone else?

I hope to god that some moron over at Ford did not decide to stick this on the same platform as the Focus. Americans are already made enough about getting the shitty Focus still, now Ford wants to ruin Mazda sales?
