Fisker considers producing Karma plug-in hybrid in Detroit
Fisker is considering building our favorite hybrid from the 2008 North American International Show in Detroit. Vic Doolan, Fisker’s director of retail development said that Michigan has the experienced workforce and unused production capacity and supplier network to build the Fisker Karma plug-in hybrid.
Doolan said the Fisker is still in the ‘exploratory stage’ as it discusses plans with potential suppliers to build the Karma. Regarding Michigan, Doolan says “It does make a lot of sense.”
The Q-Drive plug-in hybrid technology allows the Fisker Karma to drive the first 50 miles on battery alone. Performance wise, the Karma does 0-60 in 5.8 seconds with a top speed of 125mph.
Fisker hopes to begin delivers in the 4th quarter of 2009 with an annual production of at least 15,000 units. Pricing starts at $80,000.
