Following the little teaser released by Honda, we were pretty excited to see what Honda had in store for the next-generation Pilot. But when Honda revealed the Prototype Honda Pilot at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show, we were, well quiet. While Honda pitched the design as ‘evolutionary,’ the concept left us very disappointed. And we’re not alone.

According to a survey by CNW Research the Prototype Pilot scored ‘lousy’ with consumers. President Art Spinella said that the concept raked up ”about 7.5 on our 12-point scale for exterior styling, which stinks for a new vehicle,” he said.

“Mostly, people said it was boring “” there was nothing distinctive about it to them in a positive way,” Spinella explained.

This will be the Pilot’s first major redesign since it was introduced in the summer of 2002.

The good news though is that Honda will probably fully re-design the exterior now: American makes would just release it and say “what wrongs wit’ De-Troit cars?” in as much of a hick drawl as they could muster.

I’m curious how much leeway they actually have to restyle the front before launch. The rest of the body is boring, but passable if they get the front end right.

very disappointing design. It’s trying too hard to be politically correct and it ends up being repulsive in the end. It looks like a step back, not forward.

If this one scored lousy I wonder how the Accord sedan scored. Now THAT is a lousy design. It’s a Saturn / Buick wearing a Honda badge.
