According to Florida Highway patrol, five young men were killed after their BMW M5 was airborne for 200 feet while speeding down a private airport runway and smashing into a tree.
The police said they do not know whether the vehicle was alone or was racing with another car. According to the investigation, the M5 ran off the 85-foot-high embankment at the end of the runway, flew 200 feet, and smashed into a large tree, splitting in half. Three of the five passengers were ejected from the car while two remained inside.
“It’s too early in the investigation to determine a speed and also to determine whether seat belts were in use at the time of the crash,” Burroughs said.
No names have been given as of yet but two of the five boys, ranging from ages 18 to 20, were from Ocala and two were from Fairfield and one was from Anthony.
