Audi has spent big bucks to boost its image with a parody of its competitors in its upcoming Super Bowl commercial. The German car maker will be using an iconic scene from The Godfather to poke fun, without naming names, at its rivals. Audi said that it paid Paramount Pictures a licensing fee of somewhere between $500,000 to $1.5 million. And no we’re not kidding, that’s exactly what they said.
The ad starts off with a silver R8 parked in front of a Beverly Hills mansion, where inside a scene from The Godfather unfolds with motor oil being spilled instead of blood. The commercial ends with the words “Old luxury has been put on notice” before the R8 speeds out of the driveway.
But the best thing we found while hunting for info on this commercial is a rumor that the silver R8 may be a convertible version of the Audi supercar. Guess we’ll have to wait and watch. If you’re bored, head over to the Audi US site and watch the countdown. Right now there are 11 days, 18 hours and 42 minutes “until the moment of truth.”
