En Route: 2008 Pontiac G8s on their way to the U.S.

As we kick of this week with automotive news, the first shipment of 2008 Pontiac G8 Sedans are on their way from Australia to the U.S. Four ships will be arriving in the Northern California Benicia port, with the first ship arriving on January 28th. On board will be 1,800 brand new units of G8 sedans, half of them powered by a V6 256hp engine and the other half with a 6.0L V8 GT producing 361hp.

The cars will arrive at Pontiac dealerships on March 1 with the West Coast getting the first batch. GM says that it will initially launch the G8 with 7,000 units and expects to have an annual volume of 40,000 cars in a full production year.

Pricing starts at $27,595 for the base G8 that is powered by a 3.6L VVT DOHC V6 engine that produces 256 horsepower with 248 lb-ft of torque. The range-topper G8 GT will start at $29,995 and is powered by a 6.0 liter V8 engine that produces 361 horsepower with 385 lb-ft of torque.
