Ford working on a new rear-wheel-drive architecture

According to a report by Automotive News, Ford executives confirmed that the company is developing a new rear-wheel-drive architecture for its Ford and Lincoln brands.
“It’s important going forward,” CEO Alan Mulally said at a dinner with journalists in suburban Detroit.
Global product Chief Derrick Kuzak said that Ford can’t share details yet, but said Ford has full intent to go ahead with modern rear-wheel-drive cars. “Yes, we’re working on a rear-wheel-drive plan for the enterprise,” Kuzak said. “It’s in the plan.”
The Lincoln MKR and the Ford Interceptor concepts shown at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show were both rear-wheel-drive studies for Ford. The new rear-wheel-drive platform will be developed at Ford’s Australian operations. Hopefully this will push Ford to produce a production Interceptor and MKR. Cross your fingers folks.
