Audi may debut diesel powered R8 in Detroit

According to Auto Motor und Sport, Audi will be debuting a diesel powered R8 at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Audi hasn’t officially said anything about a diesel R8 but has said that it will use the 2008 NAIAS to debut one production car and one concept car.
As reported before, Audi may use a Q7’s 4.2 liter TDI engine that develops 326 horsepower with 561 lb-ft. of torque. The 4.2 liter TDI engine will be hooked up to R8’s six-speed manual or automatic R-tronic transmission giving the car the ability to do 0-62 mph in around 5 seconds. Fuel-economy is said to be around 30mpg.
BMW announced earlier today that it will debut a two diesel models in Detroit including the X5 xDrive35d and the 335d. Join us starting January 13th as we bring you live coverage of the 2008 NAIAS.
