GM is set to replace the Pontiac Torrent with a small new GMC Terrain which recently made its debut at the Kuwait International Auto Show last month. According to sources the change is expected to come for the 2009 model year.

The GMC Terrain will be built on the same architecture as the next-generation Chevrolet Equinox but will have a unique sheet of metal and a different interior. Pricing will be close to the Equinox which starts at $22,995 including shipping.

“The Terrain will add an opportunity for GMC dealers to win some business in a market that we’re not in right now,” says dealer Mike Bowsher.

The 2009 Chevrolet Traverse will also add onto GM”s Lambda family which currently includes – the GMC Acadia, Saturn Outlook and the Buick Enclave.

I bought a brand new Pontiac Torrent in June 2006 and I'm not surprised they are discontinuing the model. It has the worst turning radius EVER! It's impossible to make even a simple U-turn. I've also had both vanity mirror covers break off (plasti and very flimsy) and even the piece that holds the seatbelt in the backseat (also plastic) broke off. The car is barely 3 years old and I'm trading it in! Not a surprise GM is going bankrupt with the quality they have been putting out lately. We have a 2001 GMC Envoy that still runs great & no pieces have broken off.
