Saab is set to launch a concept version of its BMW 1-Series rival London Motor Show in July. The Saab 9-1 entry-level model will be based on GM’s new Astra Delta platform and is expected to go on sale at the end of 2009.
Nothing has leaked out on what the car will look like or what the engine specs will be but Saab company sources tell AutoCar that the 9-1 will have a “dramatically styled” and an “iconic” shape. Saab hopes to attract young drivers with 9-1 and is striving to embody a sporty character for the entry-level Saab.
AutoCar believes that the 9-1 will be inspired by the Saab 9X (pictured above) and 9-3x concepts could be a strong inspiration for the 9-1.
There is now word whether we will see a stateside version, but if we do expect it to be built in a North American GM factory.
