Cadillac CTS takes Motor Trend’s 2008 Car of The Year

In GM’s first win since the Corvette took home the Golden Calipers Trophy in 1998, the Cadillac CTS was awarded the covetted 2008 Car of The Year by Motor Trend.
Speculation was rife that the award was going to either the Accord or Malibu. Why? Well one key aspect of the award is the car’s significance and in the numbers the Accord and Malibu would sell, as well as how important that market segment is to Honda and GM, respectively, it seemed nothing else could compete.
But being that this car was tested anywhere from Germany’s famed Nurburgring to another important market to GM, China, it was clear that this car has worldwide significance and will be sold around the world. In Motor Trend’s other two important categories: superiority and value, the CTS’s features, design & performance demonstrated the first and low $32,990 base price sealed the second.
Other finalists include the Audi A5/S5 & TT, Chrysler minivans, Chevrolet Malibu, Dodge Avenger, Ford Taurus & Focus, Honda Accord, Mercedes C-class, Mini Cooper, Mitsubishi Lancer, Scion xB & xD, Subaru Impreza and Volvo C30 & XC70.
