German automakers will build record number of cars in 2007

According to Matthias Wissmann, president of the German Association of the Automotive Industry, German automakers will produce a record number of cars this year.
Germans will produces between 5.6 million and 5.7 million cars in German factories this year, compared with 5.4 million last year.
Wissmann says that another 5 million will be produced in plants outside of Germany by German automakers. “We are heading for 11 million vehicles altogether,” Wissmann said.
Pointing out luxury German automakers, Wissmann said that company’s such as BMW, Mercedes, Porsche and Audi are expected to make up about 80 percent of all the luxury vehicles sold worldwide.
