Spinelli steps down as Editor in Chief of Jalopnik

Over the last year and a half that eGMCarTech has been around, we’ve had the pleasure of meeting some very influential and wonderful individuals in the automotive blogging industry. We were introduced to Jalopnik’s Mike Spinelli by our friend Kenny Herman of Fast Lane Daily at the 2007 SEMA Show in Vegas. In the one meeting (and about 4 email exchanges) that we’ve had with Spinelli, the man has been nothing but kind to reply to our requests.

Spinelli will remain as an Editor at Large at Jalopnik while the Editor in Chief position will be handed to another greatness in the automotive blogging industry, Ray Wert.

We wish you the best of luck in anything you venture into next. Hope to see you around.

Yes, we know we hardly post on Citroen news, but we thought we’d try a little something different, and interesting, today. Citroen is showing off their new Citroen Nemo Concept at the 2007 Bologna Motor Show, a car which Citroen says ” illustrates the astonishing closeness between the Citroen Nemo and its clown fish homonym.”

The Citroen Nemo concept is nothing more than a design study which expresses ‘fun looks, bright colors and unrestrained humor.”

Rome chief of parking gets fired for...umm, illegally parking

Rome’s Chief of parking & traffic, Giovanni Catanzaro was reported by a local newspaper for parking his car in no parking and tow away zones. How did he expect to get away with it? Simple, he put an expired handicapped permit belonging to an 86-year old women on his Alfa Romeo Brera because officials don’t normally tow away vehicles belonging to the disabled for obvious reasons.

While G-Cat’s taste in cars is good, his actions are in rather poor taste and apparently Rome’s Mayor saw it that way too.  For his efforts, the Chief recieved an all-expense paid trip to the unemployment line.

Toyota worker overworked to death, wife to get compensation

Ever heard that saying, ‘don’t work yourself to death’? Well neither have we, but apparently it’s a rather large and growing problem in Japan, it even has a name: ‘karoshi.’ The government first recognized this issue in 1987 and it has grown ever since, hitting 147 deaths in the past year.

A middle-management Toyota Worker in charge of quality control at the Toyota City plan, Kenichi Uchino collapsed and died at work in February of 2002 at the age of only 30 after putting in large amounts of overtime in the monthes preceeding his untimely death. Kenichi’s wife, Hiroko Uchino, had filed suit after being rejected for compensation by the Labor Ministry office. The Nagoya District Court, today, ordered the office to reverse that decision and pay compensation to Hiroko.

Edo Comeptition takes Lambo LP640 to Nardo - hits 214mph!

Edo Competition Lamborghini LP640 Versione Nardo

In a very short-story-like press release, Edo Competition tells us about their adventure of taking their modified Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640 around the Nardo track in Italy. Officially called the Edo Competition LP 640 Versione Nardo, the car develops a total of 663 horsepower from a 6.5 liter V12.

To extract 663 horsepower, Edo Competition did some ECU recalibration, added new high flow air filters and high performance catalytic converters. That allowed Edo Competition to hit a top speed of 214mph, the fastest any Lamborghini has ever gone before.

But Edo is not done yet. The tuner company says that their goal with the LP640 is to hit 700 horsepower, allowing them a top speed 224 mph and above.
