Volkswagen announced today that it is replacing its 1.6 liter FSI engine with a new 1.4 liter TSI unit that delivers more power with reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The engine will be available in the Golf, Golf Plus, Jetta, EOS and Passat models.

The new 1.4 liter TSI engine produces a 122 horsepower with an increased torque of 30 percent to 155 lb-ft. The engine also increases fuel-economy from 42.2 mpg from the 1.6 liter FSI to 44.8 mpg. The engine will be mated with Volkswagen’s new seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox.

Pricing will be increased from £150 over the current unit to £175.
