Don’t get all freaked out by the title. Of course the 420 horsepower Audi R8 that does 0-60 in 4.5 is anything but slow. In fact it is the fastest car that Audi has ever built. But when Audi UK invests £6 million to advertise the Audi R8 they will use the tagline: “the slowest car we’ve ever built”.
And that’s because each R8 is constructed with painstaking precision, largely by hand, it’s actually by far the slowest build process of all Audi models. Only 450 cars will be delivered in the UK this year, and 750 in 2008. Pricing will start at £77,000.
That 90-second commercial developed by Richard McGrann and Andy Clough of Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH), shows a group of real Audi mechanics over a number of days as they construct the vehicle from the very first bolt to the finished car.
We’re suckers for creative and fun advertising. Good job Audi.
