BMW, VW and Audi to debut mini-car concepts at Tokyo

Next week at the Tokyo Motor Show, BMW, Audi and Volkswagen will debut concepts of feature models.

Audi will debut its first concept version of the A1, a car that will be slotted below the A3. The concept will outline the size and design theme of the production car that is due in 2009.

Volkswagen will debut a five-door minivan version of it’s Up! concept. The minivan Up! will be based on the three-door Up! concept that made its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Production of the rear-wheel-drive, rear-engine Up! will begin in September 2010.

Finally, BMW will debut a concept based on the 1-Series. Rumors suggest that the concept will be a small SUV named the X1. BMW spokesperson declined to comment on exactly what the concept will be.
