BMW 1-Series Convertible coming to U.S. in April for $40k

When BMW announced the 1-Series Convertible at the end of last month, we were thinking about how it wouldn’t sell for less than $40,000. Then it got us thinking that why someone would pay $40,000 for a compact convertible when they can go for the larger 3-Series Sedan or Coupe.
Either way, according to Automotive News, BMW will be launching the 1-Series convertible in the U.S. in April right next to the 1-Series coupe. While the coupe will go for in the low to mid $30,000 range the convertible is expected to start at the low $40,000s.
The soft-top convertible will come in the same variants as the coupe. The 128 will be powered by a 3.0 liter inline 6-cylinder engine producing 230 horsepower. The 135i will be powered by BMW’s twin-turbocharged 3.0 liter inline 6-cylinder engine that produces 300 horsepower. BMW says that it will do 0-60 in 5.6 seconds.
