At first this may seem like scientific experiment but this is in fact BMW’s test mule for the upcoming BMW X1 that was confirmed by CEO, Norbert Reithofer, at a press conference late last week.

Instead of building the X1 in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where the X5 is made and where the X6 will be made, BMW will be moving production to its European plant. BMW has also confirmed a MINI SUV in the works which is expected to share platforms with the X1.
