Ford’s Europe CEO expects Kuga to sell out

Speaking to the press at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show, Ford’s European CEO, John Fleming, said he expects the Ford Kuga to sell out when it hits the market next year in June. In an interview with Automotive News Europe, Fleming said that the demand for the Kuga could outstrip supply.

“Experience over the last few years has said that if you get the design right, you get the basics right,” Fleming said.

Inspired by the iosis X Concept the Ford Kuga Crossover is powered by a 2.0 liter Duratorq diesel engine that produces 134 horsepower.

Currently the segment is dominated by Toyota”s RAV4 which has about 22 percent share of the market. The Toyota RAV4 sold 108,466 units last year for an increase of 15.9 percent from 2005.

Sharing the same platform as the Focus lower-medium car, the Kuga will go into production at Ford”s Saarlouis plant in Germany. Pricing will be announced closer to launch.
