Dealers can’t get enough Mitsubishi Lancer GTS models to meet demand

The redesigned Mitsubishi Lancer is very popular and off to a great start but dealers can’t seem to get enough of the sedan in its most expensive trim. Originally, Mitsubishi had expected the mid-level ES trim to be the best seller in the U.S, however dealers have been selling more of the GTS off their lots.

According to Janis Little, spokeswoman for Mitsubishi Motors North America, the Mitsubishi Lancer GTS accounted for 60 percent of all Lancer sales. However, even though the U.S. was the first country to get the new Lancer, dealers say that they were told that nearly 1,700 of their GTS orders had been canceled.

Little said she has no idea when the dealers can get more of the GTS, but in the mean time they can order the ES and get the GTS later down the road.

The Lancer was Mitsubishi’s best-seller for the first half of this year with sales of 20,816, up 67.6 percent from the first seven months of 2006. The figures include both the redesigned 2008 Lancer and the 2006 model that has been replaced.
